HELP SAVE OUR HOME
I am fundraising to buy my home in Mākaha, Hawaiʻi. This is where I live with my mom, stepdad, brother, dogs, cats and chickens. This is Fumie Farms, it is my heart and soul, and where I wish to continue farming. This land has been in my family for generations and I want to buy the property to stop a public sale. A public sale would increase the home price beyond attainable funds, as median prices for single family homes on Oʻahu average over a million dollars.
The story of this farm is focused on my Okinawan family but I am also specifically connected to Mākaha through my Native Hawaiian ancestry. Beyond Mākaha, I am genealogically connected to these islands, the place my ancestors have lived and stewarded for hundreds of years. Recorded in the most recent U.S. Census, more than half of Hawaiians live outside of Hawaiʻi. Hawaiians are made to compete with a worldwide demand to live and vacation in “paradise”. For Hawaiians, like me, Hawaiʻi is not just a paradise, it is home. Can you help me and my family stay in our ancestral home?
I already have a portion of required funds, but still need help reaching my fundraising goal of $200,000. Would you be willing to make a contribution to my fundraiser? Please donate in the form or at the links below and share my fundraiser near and far. Thank you.
